Filey is a traditional Victorian English seaside townFiley is a fishing town on the North East coast of England a traditional Victorian English seaside town. The greater part of the town stands high above the sea on a cliff with a superb outlook over an expansive and magnificent bay.

It is believed that there has been a community at Filey for over 1200 years and that for a thousand years it was a remote small fishing and farming village

Filey is a perfect place for an active holiday or just relax on the five-mile stretch of award winning sandy beach, Filey is ideal for surfing, fishing, yachting, golf, walking and bird watching, just a few of the activities, which are available here.

The oldest building in the town is the Filey Museum on Queen Street, built in 1696. Filey's history of can be viewed at the local museum. here you can experience recreations of rural life, covering all aspects of Filey's past and present.

 

Filey Town In BloomThe majestic facade of The Crescent is complemented by spectacular gardens and parks, which have secured Filey ‘Town In Bloom’ awards on many occasions.

Filey hosts an Edwardian festival. A week long look at life in bygone days. Strawberry teas served by ladies in period costume, Punch and Judy shows, barrel organs, brass bands and processions will take you back in time.

entertainment for visitorsThe festival runs from the last Saturday in June for nine days and celebrates the period when Filey really developed as a seaside resort. There are plenty of activities and entertainment for visitors and residents alike, and many visitors make it an annual event. The Festival Parade through the town on the first Sunday has always attracted large crowds. Due to health and safety legislation, which has been placed on the organiser the Filey Lions Club the Sunday parade could cease.

Brass and silver bands from around the area to play on Sunday afternoonsIn Victorian and Edwardian eras small groups of musicians played in the gardens during the summer season. The tradition continued into the 1950's and has lately been revived by Filey Town Council who has a brass and silver bands from around the area to play on Sunday afternoons during the summer months.

 

Filey BriggFiley Brigg
Is a finger of gritstone protruding out to sea for nearly a mile forming a natural pier and breakwater. The Brigg is at the mid-point of the Yorkshire coast. It is accessible for several hours on each side of low water and can be reached by a short walk along the sands from the town. Visit Filey Brigg, a haven for a variety of birds and wildlife where you can explore the many rock pools in search of sea creatures.
